Two Poems from May

I AM NEITHER

I am neither Christian nor Jew,
but in some way I am both,
and Palestinian, too.
I am the child on the beach
in Gaza, the old rabbi on
a Jerusalem street,
a woman selling rosaries
in Bethlehem.
They are in my genes,
and I in them,
and though we have forgotten it,
we are family,
we are one people,
made of the dust
of anguished millennia.

SOPHIA

Sophia is falling down
the rabbit hole,
chased by the hounds of
ignorance, who
hunt her mercilessly
for being the expression,
symbol, and
embodiment
of Gnosis.
She, in turn,
looks inward,
at the stars.
