kus mari tay kasu: ma:ran,
mari kus tay ma:ran kas |
yus harà harà trö:vith garà garà kare,
adà su mari tay ma:ran tas ||
Who will die and
who will be killed?
Who will perish
and who will be slain?
He who gives up
Hara, Hara
(Shiva, Shiva)
and takes up
Gara, Gara
(house, house),
it is he who dies
and is slain.
Note: Such a person dies and is slain by the worldly entanglements of a householder. Reference is made to this again in JK/NKK 55, to be translated next.

hèth körith ra:j pheri na:,
dith körith tRpti na: man |
lu:b vina: zi:v mari na:,
zi:vant mari tay suy chuy gya:n ||
Acquiring a kingdom
will not make you content,
and giving it away
will not satisfy your mind.
One who lives without desire
will not die.
To be dead
(to worldly desires)
while living,
that is wisdom.

bra:nth yimav trö:và tim göy khàsith |
Sa:stra bu:zith chu yamà-bhayè kru:r
su na: pôtsà tà döni: lösith ||
Food and clothing
do not quiet the mind.
Those who give up false hopes
achieve their goal.
In one who has heard
the scriptures,
the fear of death
is terrible.
Those without credit
(for a loan)
live happily.
Note: The reference at the end is to desire, which is compared to a money lender. One who does not enter into transactions with desire, does not become dependent upon them, and so lives in a blessed state.

sômuy khè, ma:li, sômuy a:sakh
sami khènà màtsàrànay barànyèn tö:ri:
Eating too much will
get you nowhere,
not eating will
feed your ego.
If you eat moderately,
you yourself will be moderate.
Moderate eating
will open
the closed doors.
Note: The "closed doors" are probably the chakras. Lalla tells us in several places that she traversed all the chakras, reaching the highest, the sahasrara (thousand-petaled) lotus.

lu:ban bu:gan böràm nà pray |
sômuy a:ha:r sèTha:h zonum,
tsôlum du:khà-va:v polum day ||
In life I did not seek
wealth and luxury,
nor did I become attached
to greed and
sense-pleasures.
Moderate in food and drink,
I patiently faced
the winds of adversity,
and remained devoted
to God.
