New mind, new moon,
I saw the expanse of
waters ever new.
Since I, Lalla, cleansed
my body and my mind,
I, Lalla, have been
ever new.

Crown, canopy,
chariot, and throne,
merry-making, dancing,
and a soft bed--
which one of these
do you think could last,
and take away
the fear of death?

The sannyasi visits
every shrine,
seeking to find
a vision of Himself.
Having been taught,
O Mind,
lose not thy path.
When from afar 'tis seen,
the grass looks very green.

Note: In Hinduism, a sannyasi (Sanskrit sannyasin) is a religious mendicant ascetic. Lalla is not only pointing out the inherent contradiction involved in searching in far-flung shrines for the Self, which is everywhere, but also alluding to the persistent temptation to lose her non-dualistic path by falling into the dualistic religion of the shrines.

yoray a:y tu:ry gatshun gatshe,
kenh natà kenh natà kenh natà kya:h ||

Wearily we come and go,
traveling day and night.
From where we have come,
there we must go.
Nothing, nothing, nothing--
or What?

Note: Lalla is here hinting that the seemingly endless round of birth and death, apparently leading to nothing, might potentially have another outcome. That other outcome would be realization of the Self.

Clothing your body
with wisdom,
impress Lali's words
on your heart.
Through OM
Lali has become
absorbed in the light
of consciousness,
and has overcome
the fear of death.
