ॐ नमः शिवाय ॐ THE POEMS OF LALLA OF KASHMIR JK/NKK 68, 69

Who is the male florist,
and who is the female florist?
Which flowers can be
offered to Him?
From which spring comes the water
to anoint the idol of Shiva?
Which mantra awakens Shiva?

JK/NKK 69

SaSirasà gôD dizès zalàdö:ni:,

The male florist
is the mind,
and the female florist
is desire.
Offer flowers of devotion
in His worship.
The nectar in the digit
of the moon
is to be poured on Him
for anointing.
The mantra of silence
will awaken Shiva.

ॐ नमः शिवाय ॐ

Note: The "nectar in the digit of the moon" refers to a particular mystical experience involving the sahasrara chakra (the "thousand-petaled lotus").

The god is stone
and the temple is stone,
from top to bottom,
one stone.
To whom do you offer
worship,
o foolish Brahmin?
(Instead,) join the mind
to the breath
as one.

ॐ नमः शिवाय ॐ

ॐ नमः शिवाय ॐ THE POEMS OF LALLA OF KASHMIR JK/NKK 29

JK/NKK 29
O fickle mind,
do not be full
of fear.
The Beginningless One
himself takes care
of you.
How can you know
when He will take away
your (spiritual) hunger?
Liberation is in
His saving Sound.

Note: The last line refers to the sacred syllable OM, described as "taruk," an adjective derived from the word "tar," ferry. It means "ferrying" or "having the qualities of a ferry." The idea is that the OM sound can ferry one across this world, across the ocean of embodied existence.

ॐ नमः शिवाय ॐ

O fool, right action
is not meditation and
rituals.
It is not caring for
the body or
decorating it.
The lesson
to be learned
is knowing
the Self.
