ब्रह्मोवाच | 

अस्ति गुह्यतमं विप्र सर्वभूतोपकारकम् | 
दॆव्यास्तु कवचं पुण्यं तच्छृणुष्व महामुनॆ || 2 ||

brahmovAcha |

asti guhyatamaM vipra sarvabhUtopakArakam |

dEvyAstu kavachaM puNyaM tachChRRiNuShva mahAmunE || 2 ||

BrahmA said:

There is a most hidden secret, helpful to all beings,

it is the meritorious armor of the Devi. Hear this now, O great sage. || 2 ||

dEvIkavacham 1

ॐ नमश्चण्डिकायै 

मार्कण्डॆय उवाच | 

ॐ यद् गुह्यं परमं लोकॆ सर्वरक्षाकरं नृणाम् | 
यन्न कस्यचिदाख्यातं तन्मॆ ब्रूहि पितामह || 1 ||

OM namashchaNDikAyai

mArkaNDEya uvAcha |

OM yadguhyaM paramaM lokE sarvarakShAkaraM nRRiNAm |

yanna kasyachidAkhyAtaM tanmE brUhi pitAmaha || 1 ||

OM. That supreme secret in the world that gives all protections to humans,

that which is not spoken of to anyone, please tell me that, O Grandsire.
