I am happy to announce that, in a little less than two years of existence, this poetry blog has had 45,000 visits. These visits have come from over seventy countries, on all continents except Antarctica. Those who say that no one reads poetry anymore are wrong.

The blog, to be sure, contains more than just poetry. There are also short prose entries, and a lot of photography. I expect the poetry, the prose, and the photography to increase, to improve in quality, and to become more diverse. In the meantime, I thank you all for making this blog a success.

Occipit IV - Later I Learned in Meticulous Verse

Later I learned in meticulous verse,
Before there were Brahmi lines.
My memory held all science and art,
And holds it still in part.

Occipit III - Naked I Lived Among the Trees

Naked I lived among the trees,
With a language long since gone.
Of politics I had no need,
I could not write or read.

Occipit II - And Hebrew, Too, Is Mine to Know

And Hebrew, too, is mine to know,
It does not strain the soul.
The cap I wore has been mislaid,
But the memory lives somehow.

Occipit I - That I Lived in a Latin Time

That I lived in a Latin time
Is a truth that cannot be doubted.
By that fact no root is routed,
Nor other tongue is slighted.
