WITH APOLOGIES TO ELIOT

I have measured out
my life
with books,
orgasms (both
mental and
physical),
and the daily
grind. Early and
late, I've paid
my dues.
(Late to bed and
early to rise
makes a man
tired.)
Now that I'm
retired,
I can't read the
date on my watch
without a
magnifying glass,
and only know
what day it is
by the letter
on my
pill dispenser.
Now my
expatriated life
is measured
out in
sunbaths,
in whiskey nightcaps,
and in poems.
