I draw strength
from my nudity.
It is the sun
on my body,
the air in my lungs,
the food I eat,

night's sleep.

the absence of clothes,

Business As Usual

It was a shock to realize that there are people who WANT the cruelty, the injustice, to continue. Not that they are particularly cruel themselves, but for the sake of "business as usual." Yes, they would sacrifice millions of lives for business as usual. They would, in fact, sacrifice our world (which is also theirs) in order to have business as usual. They are, in fact, doing it now.

They have the wealth, the power, and all the weight of an unjust system behind them. They care nothing about democracy, or morality, or any human value. They know that it is "business as usual" that enables their greed.

They also know,
even if we don't,
that we have the power
to stop them.

I'm pleased to be able to say that the poems in this blog have been visited 40,000 times since the blog's inception (October 2016). This milestone would have been reached sooner, had I not deactivated my Facebook account for six months. I am currently publishing links to the blog posts on Google Plus (Don Traxler), Facebook (Donald Traxler), Twitter (@dtrax42), and Ello (@dtraxler).. Those posts that contain nudity are not, however, published to Facebook. Thank you all for your support.

Adjusting the Fire

the woodstove insert
in the fireplace
is finicky.
there is a spot,

control--if you can
hit it,
the fire will burn
brighter and longer.
when I do hit it,
I almost remember

from my Catholic
grade school,
something I liked,
along with much
that I didn't,

good,

and perfect.
"With blossoms today,"
I open the door
with the large,
glass pane,
add some wood,
and have to adjust
the fire again,
trying to get it
just right,
middle of the slot.
"Queen of the Angels,"
goddess-worship
comes easy
to me.
"Queen of the May."
and one of the girls,
one I also worshiped,
would place a crown
of flowers
on Mary's head,
like the crown
of stars
on Mother
Yemanyá.
