QUATRAINS DE NOSSA SENHORA

XCI.
Avaritia, avaritia quae
societatem nostram destruit,
hostis principalis est,
sicut semper fuit.

Greed, greed that
destroys our society,
is the main enemy,
as it has always been.

As I've said before, these quatrains come in whatever language they want to. The last line of the previous poem was in Latin, and apparently I was still on the Latin channel for this one. These are the mysteries of the Muse.

By the way, the woman on the 1000 peso note is Juana de Ibarbourou, arguably the most important poet of Uruguay. In this house, due to a bit of personal history, we think of her as "Santa Juana de Melo." Another story, for another time.
