No Husband

 

In our Florida kitchen

there was a sign above the sink,

that read, "No husband has ever been shot

while doing the dishes."

We still had the sign

in the old folks' home,

and I still did the dishes.

Alone, I still did them,

though not as many.

Now, in another country,

I'm nobody's husband,

but I still do the dishes,

and I still wear the ring.
