rangas manz chuy byon-byon labun,
sorày tsa:lakh tà barakh svakh |
tsakh ràs tà vö:r ga:lakh,
adà DeSakh Siva sund mvakh ||
On the stage of the world
you will find His many forms.
If you tolerate all,
you will enjoy happiness.
If you end anger, hatred,
and enmity (in yourself),
then you will see
Shiva's face.

yèmy lu:b manmath mad tsu:r morun,
vatànö:S mö:rith tà logun da:s |
tömi: sahazà i:Svar gorun,
tömiy soruy vyôndun sa:s ||
The one who kills
the three thieves,
greed, lust, and pride,
and having slain
these highway robbers,
remains a servant to others,
that one spontaneously
seeks the Lord,
that one considers all else
to be mere ashes.

zal thamàvun hutavah turana:vun,
u:rdvagaman pariv tsarith,
ka:Thà-dheni dvad Sramàna:vun,
antih sakalày kapaTa-tsarith. ||
To stop flowing water,
to cool a raging fire,
to walk on air,
to make milk flow
from a wooden cow,
in the end these are all
just acts of fraud.

Name and fame are
like water in a basket.
Only a strong man
who can hold the wind
in his fist,
or one who can tether
an elephant with
a hair of his head,
can retain them.

yèndriyey Somrith a:nand kare,

The one who faithfully
follows the guru's word,
controlling the steed
of the mind with
the reins of knowledge
and controlling the senses,
that one enjoys bliss.
Then who will die
and who is slain?

kus mari tay kasu: ma:ran,

yus harà harà trö:vith garà garà kare,
adà su mari tay ma:ran tas ||
Who will die and
who will be killed?
Who will perish
and who will be slain?
He who gives up
Hara, Hara
(Shiva, Shiva)
and takes up
Gara, Gara
(house, house),
it is he who dies
and is slain.
Note: Such a person dies and is slain by the worldly entanglements of a householder. Reference is made to this again in JK/NKK 55, to be translated next.

lu:b vina: zi:v mari na:,
zi:vant mari tay suy chuy gya:n ||
Acquiring a kingdom
will not make you content,
and giving it away
will not satisfy your mind.
One who lives without desire
will not die.
To be dead
(to worldly desires)
while living,
that is wisdom.
