We Are Life

We are life
and the mystery
of life.
We are the sunrise
and the sunset,
and the heat
of noon.
We are the year
with all its seasons,
fate with all its reasons,
and peace
and war.

But we do not
know it.

That Which Lives

That which lives
behind the light
and shadow,
behind the forms,
is ancient,
and cannot be
contained,
cannot be
suppressed,
or laid
to rest.

When it wakes,
it makes
all new.

Soy humano, ni más ni menos

Soy humano, ni más ni menos,
y mi raza se llama la humanidad.
No pertenezco a nadie,
ni a ningún estado.
Nací hace tres cuartos de siglo,
y voy a morirme como todos los demás.
Todos los idiomas de la humanidad
son míos igual,
y no hay nada que sea
humano que no comparto.
Tengo una sola familia,
la humanidad,
y tenemos que ser libres.

Tenemos que ser libres.

I Speak

I speak for three-quarters of a century,
but I also speak for eons,
for more than one culture,
for more than one race,
for more than one language,
and perhaps
for more than one
universe,
for more than one
space-time
continuum,
for alternate
realities
and destinies.
We are here
to be free.

We are here
to be free.

I read nature like a book,
eagerly awaiting
the next page,
the next chapter.
